South on Main’s Master Plan Moves Forward

The master plan guiding the vision for South on Main has been officially and unanimously approved by the Woodstock City Council to move forward, paving the way for more even more exciting new releases. With the neighborhood’s pool and cabana currently under construction for a 2018 opening, new homes and homesites in Phase Two have also now been released for sale. South on Main’s approved master plan encompasses 575 residences, a combination of homes and townhomes, nearly twenty acres of parks, community gardens, multi-use trails and 41,800 square feet of commercial amenities.

A recent article covering the city approval published by the Cherokee Tribune highlighted the importance of South on Main as a landmark destination for Woodstock:

Developer John Wieland’s South on Main project for which land was purchased in 2007, didn’t break ground until 2015 thanks to the Great Recession, and while there are approximately 35 homeowners living in the development, master plan updates with rezoning and several variances were unanimously approved by the Woodstock City Council Monday night.

“This is a legacy project that is very important to Mr. Wieland and his wife,” attorney Parks Huff, who represented developers for South on Main in the case said in his address of the council. “We had an interesting experience when he was introduced at the planning commission – the audience clapped. That’s unusual for a developer to have people cheering for their development.”

Huff said that residents of the community are supportive of South on Main and that, among other things, shows the quality of the project.

The 72.32-acre site plan includes townhomes, a phase for condos, apartments or a mix with the approved updates, trails and parks running through the center of the development which include dog parks and a theater. South on Main will also provide connection to the Noonday Creek Trail from Main Street and several road improvements to adjacent streets.
